Our Heritage
Saadettin Avayni moves from Lebanon to Istanbul during the Ottoman era, entering the maritime and trading business and laying the foundations of a family shipping tradition that would continue for generations.
Captain Mehmet Karakaya takes over the family maritime business, expanding operations and establishing key trade routes across the Mediterranean and Black Sea.
Captain Faruk Karakaya retires from the Turkish Navy and enters the commercial maritime sector, bringing military precision to civilian shipping operations.
Captain Faruk Karakaya lost his life on 2 March 1986 while serving aboard M/T ATLAS-1, following an air attack in the Persian Gulf during the Iran–Iraq Tanker War. His legacy of courage, seamanship, and dedication to the maritime profession continues to inspire and guide the generations that followed.
Capt. Hakan and Capt. Tarkan Karakaya found ALYANS Chartering and Shipping Co. in Istanbul, establishing the company as a specialist in international chartering and maritime services.
Major agreements signed with CIS companies for chartering services. Alyans expands its Black Sea and Mediterranean operations significantly.
Liner services and shipping agency established from Italian Adriatic ports to Turkish and Black Sea destinations, creating regular trade lane operations. Yearly served more than 1,600 ships.
With two of our own 13,000 DWT vessels, MV MERİÇ and MV FIRAT, and a total fleet of seven vessels ranging from 13,000 to 19,000 DWT, Alyans established a regular general cargo, project cargo and container service connecting the USA, Türkiye and Black Sea ports.
Forwarding and Logistics division established, transforming Alyans from a chartering company into a full-service integrated logistics provider.
Long-term contracts signed with Turkish Petroleum (TPAO) for oilfield equipment transportation, marking entry into the energy sector logistics.
Long-term marine transport agreement signed with the Turkish Ministry of Defense, beginning a partnership that continues to this day.
Worked for many years with ENKA–Bechtel on the Bautino Caspian Sea oil platform projects, serving as sea transporter, marine consultant, supplier, and shipping agent.
Alyans acquired M/F ERDENİZ from Scandlines Denmark, at the time Turkey’s largest rail-ferry vessel, enabling direct rail–sea intermodal transportation. Between 2003 and 2014, Alyans transported more than 8.5 million metric tons of coal, iron ore, and other bulk, military, containers and project cargoes.
Successfully completes the transportation of heavy defense equipment for the Turkish Armed Forces, including 400 Leopard 2A4, many military vehicles and equipment, and more than 2,000 Class 1 containers — one of the largest military cargo operations in Turkish history.
Milgem Project — ADIK & ALYANS Naval Shipbuilding Projects. Two LST (Landing Ship Tank) TCG Sancaktar & TCG Bayraktar delivered successfully.
Undertakes and completes the transport of CHF-47 helicopters for the Turkish military, demonstrating capability in the most sensitive and complex defense logistics.
Successfully completed major door-to-door heavy-lift transportation projects for power plants and industrial facilities located across Central Anatolia and the Eastern Black Sea region of Türkiye.
Continuing to serve public and private sector clients with expanded capabilities in multimodal transport, defense logistics, and project cargo across six continents. To date, operations have included the transportation of more than 15,000 Class 1 containers, the worldwide carriage of commercial vessels and naval ships aboard semi-submersible vessels, as well as the ongoing transportation of a wide range of civil and defence-industry cargoes requiring complex handling and advanced technical expertise.
